Measuring the Motion of Main Contacts

Evaluating the mechanical wear of circuit breakers

Monitoring the movement of main contacts within a circuit breaker during opening or closing cycles is essential for identifying mechanical wear in the operating mechanism or the mechanical linkage. This is achieved by attaching digital or analog motion transducers to a circuit breaker's mechanical linkage.

Digital or analog motion transducers can be linked to the CIBANO 500 with the CB TN3 accessory.
Primary Test Manager (PTM) Software utilizes motion data obtained during breaker operations to calculate and assess performance metrics such as position over time, damping behavior, and arcing zone velocity.

Furthermore, CIBANO 500 can use the same test configuration to test Timing, Static and Dynamic Contact Resistance and the coil and motor current of high-voltage live-tank breakers. This feature can shorten testing time by up to 50%.
