Advanced Diagnostic Testing Series
This live virtual series consists of 5 different technical sessions based on diagnostic testing topics within two-hour blocks. Each session will provide background application information, instruction on using the relevant tools, and a demonstration of the content. Since each session is live, the instructors can respond to written questions submitted via chat throughout the session.
Technical Sessions:

  • Advanced Circuit Breaker Diagnostics – DRM and First Trip
  • Partial Discharge Measurements on MV and HV Apparatus
  • Advanced Transformer Diagnostics
  • Assessment of Instrument Transformers
  • Ground Grid and Line Impedance Measurements

  • August 17, 2023
  • September 7, 2023
  • September 21, 2023
  • October 26, 2023

Western Interactive Technical Seminar (WITS)
The Western Interactive Technical Seminar (WITS) is for doers by doers.

Who should attend?

  • Field Techs
  • Field Engineers
  • Commissioning Engineers
  • Protective Relay Testers

WITS will show you best practices when it comes to testing substations in the field.

In this event, you will:

  • Get up close and personal with actual equipment.
  • Receive hands-on, step-by-step instruction from industry experts on how to get your job done safely and quickly.
  • Interact with live instructors showing you exactly which software to use and which button to push.
  • Network with peers in your area who are facing similar challenges.

Each course module is about a half-day in length. Each will also include a Fireside Chat with OMICRON, an interactive experience with your OMICRON and industry peers devoted entirely to addressing audience questions and requested topics.

Here are some of the technical topics you will learn:

  • Transformer Testing: Power Factor
  • Instrument Transformer (CT/PT) Testing
  • IEC61850 Fundamentals and Protection Testing

Here are some of the products we will touch on:

  • TD12
  • CTA
  • IEDScout
  • CMC356

You can attend everything to get a “buffet” of get-you-testing-quickly tutorials. Alternatively, you can pick and choose just the course module you want. A supplemental handout summarizing important concepts will be provided to all participants.

Advanced Protection Symposium
The Advanced Protection Symposium (APS), a North American OMICRON-hosted event, presents the latest advancements in protection and testing, along with tried-and-true applications, best practices, and real-world case studies, always keeping fundamentals front and center.

Formerly known as the Protection & Traveling Wave Testing Workshop, APS takes a big-picture look at power system protection and testing, including traveling-wave protection, cybersecurity, IEC 61850, integration of DERs, and more.

At APS, we come together to share knowledge and learn from one another, all aimed at improving grid reliability, security, safety, and affordability.
Why Attend?

  • Beyond PowerPoint!
  • Learn and experience traveling-wave protection and testing.
  • Live, engaging virtual event.
  • Q&A with industry expert

  • October 4-5, 2023

North American Partial Discharge Symposium
Join us for the 2nd North American Partial Discharge Symposium. This virtual event brings together professionals from utilities, manufacturers, industries, and academia to exchange knowledge on partial discharge (PD) measurement and detection topics.

Hear from industry experts who share their experiences and best practices using PD measurements to diagnose electrical assets. Please use the interactive Q&A sessions to discuss use cases and maintenance strategies with our speakers.
Topics Include:

  • Medium-Voltage and High-Voltage Cables
  • Rotating Machines
  • Power Transformers
  • Switchgear
  • High-Voltage Laboratories

  • November 14-15, 2023

Target Audience:

  • Test Technicians and Engineers
  • Maintenance Planners
  • Commissioning Personnel
  • Quality Control Personnel
  • Researchers and Graduate Students
  • Anyone who wants to learn about PD measurements and practical applications

Canada Protection Symposium (CPS)
The 8th Annual Canada Protection Symposium will cover emerging and new technologies in the electric power industry on protection, automation, and control. This event is truly unique in our industry.

You can hear from industry expert speakers, network with your peers, and hear from utilities sharing best practices and case studies. Please take this opportunity to learn from industry experts and listen to their experiences.
