CMC 430: Ultra-Portable Protection Test Set and Calibrator

July 3, 2017

The success story of OMICRON began more than 25 years ago with a CMC model. Today, our large family of test instruments consists of numerous specialists devices covering a wide range of applications. With the CMC 430, we are now presenting the lightest and most accurate 3-phase protection tester in the world.

Philipp Hammerer, Project Manager CMC 430, in a brief interview:

What was development focus of the CMC 430?

P.H.: A fully equipped protection test set which also fulfils ultra-portable requirements - these are the customer needs we set ourselves as a development goal. For this, we have reached the limits of what was technically feasible. Thanks to state-of-the-art components, the test set is not only small and lightweight, but also highly precise. It is also suitable for calibration tasks.

Small and lightweight – what was the biggest challenge?

P.H.: We wanted an uncompromising design for professional use. For this purpose, e.g. all connections and controls are located on the front panel, which guarantees a particularly simple cabling. To realize this concept in such a compact housing was a real challenge. The CMC 430 is also extremely robust thanks to its peripheral edge protection.

What does the term „ultra-portable“ in the title stand for?

P.H.: We have made the operation and transport of the test equipment more mobile and flexible. For example, communication is optionally selectable via Ethernet, USB or Wi-Fi. The intuitive CMControl operating software is available for both Windows PC and Android tablet. A multi-functional transport case, which can also be used as a comfortable worktop, and a smaller trolley with backpack function, completes the intelligent mobility concept.

Thanks for the interview.
