CMC CT-Check: Functional CT checks with the CMC 500

June 10, 2026

We introduce CMC CT-Check, a new add-on for the CMC 5001 that enables protection and commissioning engineers to perform basic current transformer (CT) checks without additional hardware. It extends the lightweight and versatile CMC 500 with additional CT verification capabilities.

During commissioning and maintenance, incorrect polarity, incorrect ratio, or incorrect core connection to the relay must be avoided. If not addressed, these issues may compromise commissioning results and lead to incorrect relay operation. CMC CT-Check helps identify these issues early through simple, guided functional CT checks using secondary injection.

Essential CT Checks
CMC CT-Check supports commissioning-relevant tests, such as:

  • Voltage-based ratio and polarity verification
  • Knee-point determination (IEC 61869-2) for core comparison
  • Operating burden measurement
  • Winding resistance measurement (temperature-corrected)
  • Automatic demagnetization after testing
  •

All tests are performed using the CMC 5001 hardware, with minimal wiring effort and guided testing procedures.

Designed For:
CMC CT-Check is built for protection engineers working in substations who occasionally need to verify CTs efficiently, for example during substation commissioning.

CMC CT-Check for the CMC 500 enables fast and efficient CT verification on site. For comprehensive, standards-based class verification and detailed CT assessment, the CT Analyzer complements it as the dedicated solution.
