In the past, the application of communication aided protection schemes (teleprotection) was limited due to high costs and a lack of decent performance of communication channels. Nowadays, GOOSE messaging is the state-of-the-art solution for peer-to-peer communication between IEDs and this opens up the door to new possibilities for teleprotection purposes.
The paper provides insight into how GOOSE can accelerate your protection scheme. This is shown by a variety of performance measurements and finally by a case study describing a 110 kV system with protection relays from different generations.
