Transformer Diagnostic & Protection Testing
The Seminar Series will take place at Seattle City Light and Snohomish PUD and covers 2 different topics on 2 different days:
- Day 1 (September, 18th): Transformer Diagnostic Testing at Seattle City Light
- Day 2 (September, 19th): No seminar
- Day 3 (September, 20th): Protection Testing at Snohomish PUD
Day 1: Transformer Diagnostic Testing
OMICRON’s transformer diagnostic testing seminar is designed to provide the essential information needed to "assess" the condition of your power transformer assets. Participants will learn power transformer theory, test methods, and data analysis strategies, which includes the most up to date techniques and practices that can be applied to power transformers. All subjects presented are adequate for all levels of expertise, and all examples are derived directly from field experiences. This seminar will also introduce participants to the function and operation of the OMICRON TESTRANO 600 3-phase test system.
A comprehensive list of power transformer topics will be presented including:
- Introduction to Power Transformers
- Introduction to Bushings and Surge Arresters
- Application of Electrical Measurements
- Analysis and Interpretation Results
- Introduction of the OMICRON TESTRANO and Primary Test Manager (PTM)
- Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) and Dielectric Frequency Response (DFR)
Day 2: Protection Testing
A comprehensive list of protection testing topics will be presented including:
- Reclosers and Distribution Automation
- Basic Commissioning Tasks
- Relay Testing
- Advanced Relay Testing
PRIM Engineering Services Manager
Charles Sweetser received a BSEE degree in 1992 and a MSEE degree in 1996 from the University of Maine. He joined OMICRON in 2009, and currently holds the position of PRIM Engineering Services Manager. Charles worked for 13 years in the electrical apparatus diagnostic and consulting business. He has published several technical papers for IEEE and other industry forums. As a member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) for 14 years, he holds the position of Chair of the FRA Working Group PC57.149 and is also a member of several other working groups and subcommittees.
Application and Training Engineer
Scott Cooper has thirty years of experience in a variety of roles including substation commissioning, application Engineering, power plant operations, and technical training. He is active in the IEEE PSRC and has written numerous papers and magazine articles. He currently works as the Application and Training Engineer for OMICRON in St. Petersburg, Florida.
