OMICRON Magazine

Magazine | Issue 1 2024 Following our discussions about different perspectives for breakers in air-insulated substations, we crossed the Indian Ocean searching for an expert on gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) in Dubai. With his prior experience at a GIS factory, Anas Abdulkhader guided us through the reasons for the extensive use of GIS in his area and the challenges of testing them. Anas also emphasized the safe testing methods he employs that require both sides to be grounded. This is a significant challenge due to the small resistance of the enclosure, yet it’s made possible by modern testing solutions. The final destination on our journey ended at OMICRON in Klaus, Austria, where we discussed the people behind OMICRON’s circuit breaker testing device, CIBANO 500. OMICRON’s product manager, Andreas Nenning, and former developer and current application engineer, Ari Tirroniemi, sat down with us to review the prior episodes and lessons they’ve learned from them. They discussed the common denominator in all the settings worldwide and the testing devices being used. We gained insights into the development of the CIBANO 500 and why it’s the ideal system for efficient, worldwide circuit breaker testing. LISTEN TO THE PODCAST Interested in this topic?
