Temporary Partial Discharge Monitoring of Power Cables

Partial discharge (PD) is a common sign of insulation breakdown in power cables and cable accessories, such as joints and terminations, which can eventually result in cost-intensive repairs and prolonged outages.

With suitable sensors, PD activity can be monitored and trended on a temporary continuous basis during the operating life of the equipment for troubleshooting in the field. The terminations and joints of the cable system are typical PD measurement points. Powerful noise suppression and PD source separation algorithms are used to reliably localize harmful PD phenomena in the cable system.

Plug-and-play setup

The on-line temporary PD monitoring device can be easily connected via a terminal box to permanently installed partial discharge sensors. This enables quick and safe plug-and-play connections during setup without having to shut down the asset to prevent unnecessary downtime.

A built-in computer enables long-term data collection and archival. With and Internet connection, the computer can be remotely accessed and setup by the user to send email alarm notifications when PD levels exceed user-defined thresholds.

All that you need is included in a rugged, wheeled case that is easy to transport to various locations. The IP65 rated hardware device can be used indoors and outdoors and mounted on or near the asset for temporary partial discharge monitoring.

Convenient analysis tools

Automatic software features, such as 3PARD (3-Phase Amplitude Relation Diagram) and Automatic Cluster Separation, separate noise from PD signals to help you easily and reliably determine the signal source.
