The IEC 61850 standard forms the basis for communication in electrical substations and enables new approaches like system digitalization.

In Digital Substations, different communication services are present: power system quantities are conveyed via Sampled Values and the devices exchange their statuses via GOOSE messages. Signaling to the SCADA system happens via Client/Server communication (MMS).

Our protection testing solutions for Digital Substations connect to the devices under test with these protocols. Testing is performed as established with conventional protection relays.
