Der Hauptvorteil einer Messung für die Berechnung besteht darin, dass man die tatsächlichen physikalischen Leitungsparameter misst. Eine Berechnung ist problematisch, weil derzeit die Eigenschaften des Bodens schätzt werden müssen. Dies kann aufgrund unbekannter Faktoren wie unterirdische Rohre oder verschiedene Erdschichten recht schwierig sein.

Moritz Pikisch, power line and grounding expert, gives an insight into the importance of a reliable distance protection. He explains the advantages of measurements using the CPC 100 and CP CU1 towards the calculation of the line impedance.

The main advantage of the measurement for the calculation is that you measure the actual physics of the power line. Currently an issue with the calculation is that you have to assume the soil properties. This can be quite difficult because of unknown factors such as underground pipes or different layers within the soil.

To establish a secure isolation between the test object and the operator, the CPC 100 is located a safe distance away from the high voltage area where the CP CU1 is placed.
