Keeping the Power Grid Stable

Electrical measuring transducers remain vital in power systems. Cybersecurity issues may prevent digital technology from fully replacing classical transducers. Our multifunctional test systems enable service providers to perform fast tests with automated plans. Utilities ensure grid reliability with accurate testing and consistent, centralized data documentation. Transducer manufacturers validate product quality with high-precision factory acceptance tests and standardized workflows.

Challenges

Trustworthy Tests. Despite Rush.

Time-consuming calibration

Manual testing across wide transducer ranges delays maintenance for service providers servicing multiple sites. Utilities seeking reliable power supply face increased downtime. The automated test procedures of our solutions significantly reduce the testing time.

Multiple testing devices

Separate equipment for protection and transducer tests burdens mobile service teams with extra gear and training. Inconsistent software hinders a utility’s centralized data management. Our multifunctional test systems provide a remedy.

Demanding testing requirements

Testing class 0.2 transducers demands ultra-precise sources. Power and frequency transducers require specialized signals that go beyond standard capabilities. Our versatile testing solutions provide engineers with everything they need – and more.

Versatility for multiple testing applications

The CMC 500 provides up to seven voltage and 10 current outputs, and allows them to be combined for even higher amplitudes. This gives you the flexibility to test transducers with a very broad input range. Using the same test set for transducer testing, protection testing and other tasks simplifies your test setup and significantly reduces testing time.

Ultimate precision and portability

Weighing just 8.7 kg (19.2 lb), this mobile setup is suitable for service providers testing transducers up to class 0.2 on site – ideal where precision trumps power. It offers six voltage outputs and three current outputs for comprehensive testing, including synchro-check. Combining Test Universe software’s advanced automation with the Transducer module saves hours via predefined plans and unifies reporting with protection tests.

Quick ad-hoc testing

This light-weight combo is best suited for time-critical, non-routine tests that favor ease over depth. It supports standard signals and basic sweeps, sharing the CMC family look-and-feel. It only requires minimal training thanks to guided interfaces and integrated fault models.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find what you are looking for?

Can I use the same testing system to test transducers and protection relays?

Yes, with our CMC test sets and the Test Universe software or CMControl P app you can test protection equipment and transducers. Thanks to application-specific automated test plans, star-point reversal without rewiring, and unified reporting, Test Universe saves you a lot of time during commissioning and maintenance.

Can I also use the CMC 310 to test transducers?

The CMC 310 can be used for manual testing of transducers that display the measured value. Testing traditional measuring transducers with mA or VDC outputs requires a test set with DC measuring inputs. The CMC 310 does not offer these inputs.

Which transducer characteristics does Test Universe support?

It supports linear, compound (knee-point), quadratic, symmetrical, and non-symmetrical characteristics.

What output ranges of transducers are supported?

The DC inputs of our CMC test devices cover a measurement range of ±20 mA and/or ±10 V. Within this range, the output of the transducer to test can be configured (e.g., 4 … 20 mA).

How does CMControl P differ from Test Universe in field use?

CMControl P enables intuitive manual testing; Test Universe provides full automation, reporting, and complex test plans.

What standards does OMICRON follow for transducer testing?

Our transducer test solutions comply with EN IEC 60688 for transducers with electrical inputs and outputs for measuring AC or DC electrical quantities – such as power, frequency, and phase angle.
