Partial Discharge Measurement and Analysis on Power Transformers

Partial discharges (PD), as defined by IEC 60270, are localized dielectric discharges in a partial area of a solid or liquid electrical dielectric insulation system under high-voltage field stress. Partial discharges in a transformer deteriorate its insulation and can lead to failure of the transformer.

Diagnostic PD measurements are recommended after conspicuous measured values, such as increased gas-in-oil values or after a failed PD measurement during acceptance tests.

With our testing systems, you can detect partial discharges already in their early stages and determine their source locations acoustically. This allows you to draw conclusions regarding the condition of the insulation. At the same time, further measures such as repair or additional diagnostic measurements can be initiated.

MPD 800

Our MPD 800 universal partial discharge (PD) measurement and analysis system represents the next generation of our widely-used and innovative MPD PD testing technology. Enhanced and newly-added hardware and software features ensure highly-sensitive multi-channel PD measurements for reliable, industry-standard PD testing on dry-type and oil-filled power transformers. It is used for PD measurement and analysis during factory acceptance testing, on-site acceptance testing and troubleshooting in the field.

Benefits of this solution

Other solutions

MPD 800 + PDL 650

The combination of the MPD 800 and the PDL 650 enables you to perform partial discharge measurement (PD) and localization on power transformers. If PD activity is detected, the MPD 800 automatically triggers the PDL 650 to perform acoustic PD measurements to effectively locate the source of the PD activity inside the transformer. The location is shown in a 3D image of the transformer to enable you to focus maintenance efforts.

Other solutions

CPC Sync

Using the CPC Sync functionality, you can synchronize up to three CPCs to create a HV source (up to 15 kVA) for testing dry-type transformers. The induced voltage can be used for voltage withstand tests and partial discharge measurements.

Other solutions

UHF 800 + MPD 800 + PDL 650

Our portable, easy-to-use UHF 800 system performs sensitive offline and online partial discharge (PD) measurement and analysis in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) range from 100 to 2000 MHz on oil-filled transformers. This ultra-high frequency partial discharge testing system is used during on-site commissioning (acceptance testing) and troubleshooting for added measurement sensitivity in noisy testing environments. It can be optionally combined with our MPD 800 PD measurement and analysis system and our PDL 650 PD defect localization system for comprehensive insulation condition assessments and insulation defect detection and localization.
