TEV1
TEV sensor for non-invasive TE detection
Our TEV1 is a passive and broadband sensor which can be used to decouple transient earth voltages (TEV) or capacitively coupled signals from metal surfaces. Transient earth voltages can originate from partial discharge (PD) activities occurring within a medium-voltage switchgear (MV) and can be detected on the outer surface of the switchgear. The TEV1 sensor is designed for installations on the surface of MV switchgear cabinets and other high-voltage (HV) equipment, such as metal walls on oil-filled power transformers or cable terminations. Magnets in the TEV1 sensor housing securely attach the sensor to metal surfaces.
TEV detection can be performed online without interrupting operations and offers a reliable, non-intrusive, but less sensitive alternative to a standard-compliant PD measurement. Comparing the TEV readings of several MV switchgear bays or other HV assets in a substation can provide essential information about which equipment needs to be checked for suspected PD activity with an offline PD measurement using our MPD 800 for more precise PD measurement and identification to determine corrective action.
Key Features
- Non-invasive PD detection
- Decouples transient earth voltages (TEV) on the surface of metal-clad or metal-enclosed switchgear originating from PD activity within the cabinet
- Combining TEV1 with the MPD 800 and its tunable digital filters provides sensitive PD detection and identification to determine corrective action.
Applications
- The TEV1 is designed for PD detection of surface currents or transient earth voltages (TEV) on MV switchgear surfaces in operation.
- The TEV1 can also be used on metal walls of transformers or cable terminations.
- Magnets included in the TEV1 housing attach the sensor to metal surfaces.
